Marquee or stretch tent? What to compare before booking

Compare a defined marquee interior with the shape and feel of a stretch tent using your own event brief.

Match the structure to the occasion

The best starting point is what you want the covered space to do. Is it the main room for a seated celebration, a reception area beside another building or shelter for a more informal gathering? Explain that purpose before choosing between a marquee and stretch tent.

Both the desired appearance and the practical layout matter. A tent that looks right in one garden may need a different arrangement on your site. Use images as inspiration while keeping the final specification open to assessment.

Look closely at the proposed setup

Stretch tents have a distinctive shaped canopy, with the exact arrangement depending on the structure and site. Ask the team to explain the usable area, pole positions and proposed sides for your event. Do not assume every photograph represents the configuration available for your booking.

For a marquee, compare the specific sailcloth or clearspan option being proposed. Discuss how the dining layout, entrance and evening space will work together. A useful comparison is between two complete proposals rather than two generic tent labels.

Discuss comfort and furniture together

Tell the team when the event is taking place and how long guests will remain in the space. Ask about the proposed floor, enclosure and lighting, and identify any equipment required by your caterer or entertainers.

If a tent is intended to connect with a terrace or building, explain how guests will move between the spaces. The supplier should assess the arrangement; do not assume that an attachment or connection is possible without approval.

Keep the quotation consistent

Use the same guest numbers and equipment list for both options. Review what is included in installation and collection, and ask how the site affects the proposed setup. Avoid assuming that one style is always cheaper or more suitable.
